On the last night of the year, a girl walks barefoot through the snow with matches nobody wanted to buy. Too afraid to go home, she sits down in a corner between two houses and begins to strike them, one by one, against the wall.

Content warning: Death of a child, death from cold, extreme poverty, a child alone and unprotected in the cold, fear of physical punishment by her father.
